The Queen of Fruits - How We Can Use it to Live a Healthier Life

What is Traditional Medicine?

You find a herb or a fruit, you find the active ingredient and you find its mechanism. It is then used to treat a condition, and that gets passed down from generation to generation.

An example of traditional medicine is sailors that became known as "limies," it was observed that without limes and lemons on their seaward journeys, the tissues weaken, loss of energy, pains in legs, limbs, joints, loosening of teeth - a disease known as "scurvy" occurred.

This was due to a lack of Vitamin C which is a cofactor that serves to make collagen, which cause structural protein to knit together. Once observed that limes and lemons were necessary to maintain structural health in the body, legions of ships would not leave port until the fruits were loaded on board.

The Mangosteen fruit known as the Queen of Fruits has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, and copious research has found that the Xanthone molecules it contains are powerful antioxidants (preventing free radical damage), packed with nutrition and contribute to shutting down Cox1 and Cox2, these are enzymes that act on arachidonic acid to create pain and inflammation. The real essence of this fruits healing is that it can do these things WITHOUT SIDE EFFECTS. Western medicine is very good at treating trauma, and emergency surgery, applying the use of drugs. Drugs are effective but have tremendous side effects. A person's life can be saved from a heart attack with aspirin or a nitro-glycerine tablet to cause the coronary arteries to dilate so blood can get to the heart tissue. But - the aspirin side effects (found on the back of the bottle) are kidney damage, stomach ulcers due to damage to the stomach lining, and blood clotting problems. The best way to stop a person's heart attack is change your diet, your exercise, and supplement with antioxidants to stop free radical damage that will cause debilitating conditions. Prevention is another aspect of traditional medicine that is extremely important.

What are free radicals anyway?

Free radicals occur wherever we go, the food we eat is contaminated, the water, the atmosphere. We have free radical bombardment by pollution, radiation, fatty foods and other things that are part of our everyday life.

They attack our normal cells on a daily basis. A free radical is an atom with an unpaired electron, which then attack other molecules such as DNA and steal an electron from that DNA molecule to then replenish and make a paired electron. The challenge is this, if you attack the nucleus of a cell, specifically the DNA of a cell you can change the genetic code. So this is just one cell out of our 7 trillion, which begins a chain of damage to the tissue, organ systems (respiratory, cardiac, integumentary, etc) the organs, and the whole organism or body. Damage to the body is "disease".

Science is starting to catch up with what people have known for centuries in isolated villages in Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, that the mangosteen fruit has been demonstrated and documented to help a variety of acute and chronic conditions.

Studies have shown that the Xanthones from the Mangosteen fruit can help stop free radical damage; it has the potential of inhibiting atherosclerosis, the build up of plaques within the arteries, is more potent than Vitamin E ( a very strong antioxidant) and it is used to treat inflammatory conditions of the bowel i.e. diarrhoea, dysentery, skin problems such as eczema, acne and psoriasis. It possesses anti tumour properties shown in invitro studies (in lab petri dishes) with breast, lung, stomach cancers as well as leukaemia. This is not a claim that Mangosteen can cure cancer, not at all, it is well known that there is no complete cure for cancer, but the Mangosteen fruit does possess potential as a means of preventing cancer.

Significant? Yes, I think so.

This exceptional fruit is grown in South East Asia also known as Garcinia Mangostana, about the size of a tangerine, the pericarp or rind is usually dark purple when the fruit is ripe, bitter to taste, astringent in properties. On the inside is the white pulp that is known as the fruit, exquisite to taste.

The medicinal properties are located in the pericarp. A class of phyto chemicals known as Xanthones are what set the Mangosteen fruit apart from many other fruits and herbs around the world. There are about 200 known Xanthones in nature, 40 of which are found in the Mangosteen fruit.

Dr Tootla says about the mangosteen fruit

"I have over 1,000 patients on Mangosteen juice, mostly elderly who have colon cancer, and other diseases such as arthritis and hypertension and I am amazed when the patients come back and tell me how well they are doing from the different diseases they are suffering from. It is a wide spectrum healer because it acts at the DNA level."

Dr Toolta is a board certified colon cancer surgeon, named one of the top 2000 scientists in the world for the 21st century by Cambridge university, licensed in 20 countries, he introduced robotic and laparoscopic surgery to the world, and more.

It is not a "cure all" but is an exceptional food supplement for current and for future prevention from conditions.
